ZAKK WYLDE Talks About New BLACK LABEL SOCIETY CD

BLACK LABEL SOCIETY's new album, "Hangover Music Vol. VI", is scheduled for release on April 20 through Spitfire Records. The "mostly acoustic and piano-based" collection includes an "emotive vocal-piano interpretation" of PROCOL HARUM's 1967 hit "A Whiter Shade Of Pale" and a song called "Layne", a moving tribute to the late ALICE IN CHAINS frontman Layne Staley.

"What would be the point of putting out the same Goddamn album each time?" Zakk said of the upcoming CD. "This one's darker and heavier than some of our other stuff, maybe in the vein of when ALICE IN CHAINS did 'Jar Of Flies', but it's still a BLACK LABEL record. I loved it when GUNS N' ROSES did mellow shit like 'Lies' — those were the things we ended up listening to during 20-hour drives while we were on tour."

Unlike previous records, which saw the band heading into the studio with precious little material actually written, BLACK LABEL SOCIETY had more than 20 songs ready for the "Hangover Music…" sessions. Some 15 will make the final cut.

Joining Wylde — who sings on the record in addition to playing guitar, bass and piano — are the group's regular rhythm team of bassist John "JD" DeServio and CROWBAR drummer Craig Nunenmacher. There are also cameo spots from former ALICE IN CHAINS bassist Mike Inez, former PRIDE & GLORY/WHITE LION bassist James Lomenzo and ROB ZOMBIE's drummer John Tempesta. It was recorded at Paramount Studios in Los Angeles by Zakk in conjunction with co-producer Barry Conley.
